Fear
Gimme the Good Fear
The good fear is referred to in Proverbs 1:7 “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction. ”
The word used for fear in the Book of Proverbs is yireh which means to morally reverence or revere. This type of fear makes us want to have a closer relationship with God by putting the word first in our lives. By doing so, we acknowledge his glory and power and his right to judge. We trust that there is a God and that he knows what is best for our lives. So we set aside our pride and ego, and selfishness and indulge in the word the creator left for us.
If we fear God it means we respect what he has said and done. We trust that he is wiser than we could ever be and we make decisions based on his instruction rather than on our wordly thoughts and emotions. He was here before the beginning and in the beginning. Because we couldn’t see him in the beginning or his creative hand thru the work of man we tend to place God in a box. He becomes a deity that is no longer ruler of the world. We began to view him as someone that allows us to make and live by whatever choices we want. Yes, we do get the choice to choose right or wrong, but we pretend there won’t be a consequence with our wrong choice and that God will just be comfortable with our decisions
The wisdom that we need to fear God will come by understanding that he hears, sees and knows everything. This is learned by reading and hearing the word of God. God may seem too big to wrap our heads around sometimes so instead of embracing him we ignore him. We may not respect his sovereignty and greatness and have no desire to serve him like we might respect and serve our parents.
Our hearts have to be willing to open to receive the spirit, graciousness, mercy, glory and power that he wants for our lives.
